It was founded in 1591 by the "Carmelitas Descalzos", it was one of the most important of Vélez-Málaga, but at the XIX (1821) century the building was confiscated. In 1884 the church was transformed to a theatre. The unique thing that it conserved today is his cloisters and the theatre. It was refurbished in the 90's to get its fuction as municipal theatre of Vélez-Málaga.
